I'm reading this book on my kindle titled "
First World Problems: 101 Reasons Why The Terrorists Hate Us." It's fairly ridiculous, and no I did not spend $2.99 to purchase it - I "bought" it on a free day.
Anyway, I've been reading this book, and it's meant to be humorous. It's full of chapters like, "The Butter Is Too Cold to Spread on my Banana Bread," "I Have to Poop at the Coffee Shop but Can't Leave my Laptop," and "Our Hibachi Chef Wasn't Asian." Anyway, it's about all the problems we face in America and it's supposed to be funny, but really all I see is the ridiculousness of all our lives (and yes, that includes me.) I think that we have it pretty good: every single one of us (yes,
YOU really do live an awesome and extraordinarily privileged life.) My brother likes to say we've never had a bad day in our lives, and he's right. We all have it very good. Even our bad days are better than most people's good days. I think living in St. Kitts for those three years drove that home for me.
One more thing: I absolutely see the irony of reading about "First World Problems" on my brand-spanking new Kindle Touch. I get it.
Anyway, the kids and I were out running errands today. They begged for McDonald's, we were in a hurry, they were being good, so I agreed. Being Good Friday, I ordered a Fillet-O-Fish Value Meal for myself with a diet coke ('cause, you know, that diet coke will save me from all the fat and carbs from the rest of the meal.)
We spent about 5 minutes in the drive through line (lunchtime rush,) got our food and pulled forward into the PetSmart parking lot to distribute everything. That was when I realized they forgot my fries: they weren't in the bag.
Normally, I'd just run inside and tell them they forgot the fries, but with three kids in car seats it's a lot easier to go through the drive through again. We sat in line another 5 minutes, I explained my problem to the lady on the other side of the speaker and she instructed me to pull forward to the second window for my fries.
I did just that, snagged the bag and drove away. I reached into the bag and pulled out a chicken sandwich.
That, my friends, is a first world problem.
