ISTEP 3rd Grade

From the files of "this could not possibly be any more unbelievable" Faith told me this morning that ISTEP standardized testing results are in.

Faith passed, of course, but there are 21 other kids in her class. Seven of them failed third grade and are required to take summer school before moving onto fourth grade.  32% failure rate in that classroom of smart kids?!?

How is that even possible? These are kids that are of similar academic ability to Faith.   These are crazy smart kids. I know these kids. I have known these kids since they were in kindergarten.

These kids did not fail third grade. Their teacher failed them.

This is the same teacher we've been fighting with all year. Hopefully, another parent or two or seven will stand up and fight alongside us now.

I'm not a teacher. I am a veterinarian. However, I can't help but wonder how long I would be allowed to keep my veterinary license if around one third of my patients died every year.

Quarter

Me: Cawood, if you're good tonight during Girl Scouts, I'll give you a dollar.
Cawood: I don't want a dollar. I want a quarter.
Me: Done. And remind me to email your math teacher.
Cawood: Why?
Me: Exactly.

(Just kidding!  We love Cawood's teachers! I would never fuss about that. But we will spend some time on money this summer.)
